A vintage brass perpetual desk calendar for 55 years from 1944-1998; this makes this item over 80 years old. The calendar is set in the lid of an ornate cigarette casket/ box. There is a wheel on the underside of the lid to change the dates/ days/ years of the calendar. The lid has a long central hinge which works well and the box closes tightly. The box is lined with wood and the brass was probably silver plated, but it has worn with use. Some of the engraved floral design and the borders are highlighted in red-henna; some has worn with handling. This was possibly made in India. It measures 11cm x 8.5cm x 2.7cm deep. It is in very good condition with any wear in keeping with age and use; scratches to the base; colour loss from years of handling.
