With worldwide sales exceeding 25 million copies, it became the best-selling album by a female artist in the 1980s. This 40th Anniversary Edition features, on CD 1, the complete album in high-fidelity master quality via a brand-new 2026 mix titled the "Anniversary Edition Remix"; this serves as an "alternate album" with edits distinct from the standard extended mixes. CD 2, titled "Alternates and Rarities," compiles rare tracks not included on the original album. It features three live performances from the historic 1985 "Live Aid" event, single edits, valuable unreleased songs and demos, and alternate mixes of four tracks from her subsequent soundtrack album, *Who's That Girl*.
