The audience recording *L.A. FORUM 1978 MIKE MILLARD 1ST GEN* shocked enthusiasts worldwide with the revelation that the legendary Mike Millard had recorded a Bowie show. Featuring his signature blend of expansive atmosphere and a vivid, "up-close" sound, this ultra-high-quality recording generated immense buzz and quickly sold out. The 1978 "Isolar II" tour was already well-documented—both through the official live album *Stages* and various other audience recordings—yet this specific recording stood head and shoulders above the rest, a true testament to Millard's mastery. A recording of such excellence simply could not remain out of print; it deserved to be a staple for fans—an essential entry point into the American leg of the "Isolar II" tour. This was especially true given the Mike Millard pedigree. Another factor that astonished fans was that this recording captured the exact same performance as the classic LP *Slaughter in the Air*, which had long served as the definitive document of the tour's American leg. Unlike that LP, which omitted the opening track "Warszawa," this version captured the show from the very beginning, while also perfectly balancing the live atmosphere—something the LP struggled to convey. That revelation undoubtedly fueled the massive success of *L.A. FORUM 1978 MIKE MILLARD 1ST GEN*. Naturally, a reissue was considered after the initial run sold out; however, even Millard's masterful recording contained a few cuts between songs during the second half of the set. While one could argue that these gaps—occurring between songs rather than during the music itself—were negligible, the fact remains that those specific moments *were* fully captured on *Slaughter in the Air* (hereinafter referred to as "the LP"). This meant that a complete, uncut version could be realized by patching in the missing segments. Overseas enthusiasts had actually attempted this when the Millard recording first surfaced in 2019, and those versions circulated among Bowie traders. However, those early attempts suffered from sloppy editing—a common issue with fan-made edits—and the audio quality from the LP source used for the patches was lackluster. That is where "GRAF ZEPPELIN" stepped in. They meticulously adjusted the missing sections using the LP source. The transitions between tracks are so seamless that, at first listen, there are no audible signs of editing; the result is so smooth it creates the illusion that Millard had recorded the entire show without a break—a true testament to "GRAF ZEPPELIN's" prowess. But that is not all; for this re-release, "GRAF ZEPPELIN" also undertook a fresh remaster of the Millard recording itself. It is worth remembering that "GRAF ZEPPELIN" previously demonstrated their exceptional skill with the Millard master of the legendary album *Listen to This Eddie*. Indeed, "GRAF ZEPPELIN" is unrivaled when it comes to handling Millard's recordings from the late 1970s—his peak era. Consequently, the remastering work they have delivered here is superb. They preserved the delicate, expansive high-end frequencies characteristic of Millard's late-70s recordings while evolving the sound to have a more solid, grounded foundation. Naturally, this is worlds apart from the kind of intrusive processing that drastically alters the charm or character of the original sound. In that sense, the sound leans slightly closer to the robust, full-bodied quality of *Slaughter in the Air*. That sonic improvement undoubtedly contributed to the seamlessness of the editing. The result is the ultimate, definitive edition—a perfect blend of the best qualities found in the two high-quality audience recordings from the April 4, 1978, LA Forum show. This is the definitive edition of the 1978 L.A. Forum show—a release that enthusiasts worldwide have surely been anticipating—featuring Millard’s superb recording while allowing listeners to enjoy the entire concert without a single cut. While the previous *L.A. Forum 1978 Mike Millard 1st Gen* release was undeniably a masterpiece, this new version emerges as the ultimate audience recording representing the American leg of the "Isolar II" tour. Remastering Notes: The Millard master was remastered, and two sections where cuts occurred between songs were patched using LP audio, resulting in the longest version to date. EQ processing was applied across the entire frequency range of the Millard master source, creating a tight, punchy sound characteristic of Millard’s recordings—further enhancing the powerful impact typical of his work.
