Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust Ref. 17000 | Box & Rolex Service Card

If you're looking for another ordinary Datejust, this isn't it.

The Oysterquartz is one of the most underrated Rolex references ever made. Produced for around 25 years, it's estimated that fewer than 25,000 Oysterquartz models were built across the entire range, making them exceptionally rare by Rolex standards. Rolex spent years developing the in-house Cal. 5035, and it remains one of the finest quartz movements ever produced, finished to the same standards as many of their mechanical calibres.

Then there's the design.

That sharp, angular case, the integrated Oyster bracelet, the brushed finish... nothing else in the Rolex catalogue wears like an Oysterquartz. It's a watch people recognise instantly if they know watches, and completely overlook if they don't. That's exactly why collectors love them.

This example is in excellent overall condition. It has had a very light professional polish to freshen it up while keeping the crisp lines that make these cases so special. There is a tiny mark around 2 o'clock, but it's genuinely minor and hard to notice in normal wear.

The Oysterquartz isn't the Rolex everyone buys first.

It's usually the Rolex collectors buy after they've owned a Submariner, a GMT or a Datejust—because they finally realise just how different and special these are. Once they're gone into collections, they rarely come back onto the market.
