Signed Michael Taylor ’73 studio art glass vase dating to the early years of the American Studio Glass Movement.
This hand-blown vessel features layered cobalt blue and yellow tones suspended in clear glass with visible internal bubbles characteristic of experimental studio glass techniques of the early 1970s. Its rounded globular form, thick glass walls, and small centered opening reflect the sculptural, exploratory approach found in early American studio glass.
The polished base is hand-inscribed "Michael Taylor '73."
This vase was collected by the seller's mother while studying at the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina during the early 1970s. It is believed to date from that same period. Michael Taylor's documented early career included study and work at Penland during this era, making the provenance and 1973 date consistent with his known biography.
Michael Taylor is recognized as an early participant in the American Studio Glass Movement. His work is represented in major museum collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass.
Condition is good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs observed.
