Vintage Men’s Silk Hakata-ori Obi — Never Used
An exceptionally fine vintage Japanese men’s obi, preserved in perfect, unused condition in its original lacquered wooden storage box.
The box is inscribed:
本場筑前博多織 御男帯
Honba Chikuzen Hakata-ori On-otoko-obi
“Genuine Chikuzen Hakata-ori Men’s Obi”
Woven in the celebrated Hakata tradition of Chikuzen—present-day Fukuoka—this handsome silk obi features narrow diagonal stripes in rich indigo blue and black. The densely woven fabric has the firm body and crisp texture characteristic of quality Hakata-ori, allowing it to hold a neat, secure knot.
Its restrained colour and sophisticated pattern make it suitable for wearing with a man’s formal or semi-formal kimono ensemble.
Also included is the original simple striped silk under-sash, used to secure the kimono before the main obi is tied over it.
This is an exceptionally well-preserved vintage set of genuine Japanese craftsmanship. It has never been worn and remains in beautiful condition, complete with its original presentation and storage box.
