Up for sale is a stunning vintage Mid-Century Modern Italian art glass genie bottle, made in Empoli, Italy and still retaining its original “Made in Italy” label on the base.
This piece stands an impressive 26” tall to the top of the large original stopper and measures approximately 7” in diameter at the widest point. It has that classic genie bottle silhouette that made Empoli glass so iconic during the 1960s–1970s era.
This example is done in a beautiful smoke gray (smoked glass) tone, which is far less common than the typical greens, ambers, and standard blues most often seen. Smoke gray pieces were produced in smaller quantities and are highly sought after today for their sleek, modern look that fits perfectly with Mid-Century décor. Definitely a more desirable color in the Empoli glass world.
Empoli, Italy was a major center for glass production throughout the mid-20th century. These genie bottles were primarily made for export, especially to the U.S., during the height of the Mid-Century Modern movement. Known for their bold shapes, vibrant (and sometimes unusual) colors, and oversized stoppers, they became a staple of retro barware and home décor. Today, original examples—especially in less common colors and larger sizes like this—are increasingly hard to find.
Unfortunately, the stopper has been damaged and tapped.
Displays beautifully and has been very well cared for.
This is a standout display piece and a great addition to any serious MCM or vintage glass collection.
