Vintage color postcard showing the Portland Motor Hotel in downtown Portland, Oregon. The view features the hotel’s exterior courtyard, outdoor swimming pool, parked automobiles, and surrounding city buildings.

The reverse advertises 185 rooms, free parking, dining, cocktails, and nightly entertainment. It identifies the property as an America West Corporation Hotel at Southwest Sixth Avenue and Columbia Street.

The card is unposted and unaddressed. A handwritten notation reads:

“Home for the NCR meeting in Oct 1980.”

It shows light age toning and minor edge and corner wear. Please review the photographs closely for the complete condition.

History

The Portland Motor Hotel was operating at 1414 SW Sixth Avenue by at least 1962 and catered to motorists with downtown accommodations and on-site parking. A 1978 Portland visitor guide still listed the hotel at that address and telephone number 221-1611, matching the number printed on this postcard.

The property later operated under other names, including the Days Inn Portland and Hotel Modera. The renovated building is now associated with The Hotel Zags, preserving a surviving piece of Portland’s mid-century motor-hotel era.
