How it works

An expanding mandrel is inserted into the bore of a part

A tapered section moves into an expanding sleeve or collet.

The sleeve expands outward.

The bore of the workpiece is gripped evenly around its circumference.

This provides a secure, concentric hold without clamping the outside of the part.

Common uses

Expanding mandrels are used for:

Turning, grinding, and milling rings or hollow parts.

Holding bearings, bushes, gears, pulleys, and sleeves.

Inspecting parts while maintaining concentricity.

Assembly operations where the outside surface must not be damaged.
