Hyozaemon Maruhachi Chopsticks & Mt Fuji Rest Set Lacquered Japan 124-1

Hyozaemon Maruhachi Chopsticks and Chopstick Rest Set - Japanese Lacquered Gift Set

This auspicious Japanese gift set from the established chopstick maker Hyozaemon pairs Maruhachi lacquered chopsticks with a Mount Fuji chopstick rest. Finished with natural urushi lacquer and presented in a paulownia wood box, it makes a meaningful gift from Japan.

The Meaning Behind the Maruhachi Design

The name Maruhachi combines "maru" (round) and "hachi" (eight). The heads of the chopsticks are rounded so that matters may be settled smoothly and roundly, and the body is octagonal from the handle all the way to the tip - the number eight being written in Japanese with a shape that widens as it goes, a classic symbol of growing prosperity.

Message on the Inner Plate

Maru (round): the head is round, so that things may come round and settle well.
Hachi (eight): the handle is octagonal right to the tip - an auspicious shape that widens toward the future.

Mount Fuji Chopstick Rest

The set is completed with a chopstick rest shaped like Mount Fuji, itself a symbol of ever-expanding good fortune. Together, the chopsticks and rest are put together to bring good luck to the person who uses them, which is why this set is so well received by customers overseas.
