A rare and complete Jakob Bengel Art Deco jewellery set in the original retailer’s box. Jakob Bengel of Idar-Oberstein was one of the defining makers of German Art Deco machine-age jewellery, producing pieces for the Parisian market under the Fabon Fse (Fabrication Française) mark. Both pieces in this set are marked Fabon Fse Paris 725 Déposé - the standard Bengel mark for pieces retailed through Paris - confirming the attribution. Bengel’s work is documented in the monograph “Bengel Art Déco Schmuck” (Arnoldsche Art Publishers, 2007) and held in museum collections.


The set comprises a hinged bangle and a matching rectangular dress brooch or clip - both in gilt brass with bold black enamel geometric striping in the characteristic machine-age Art Deco style. The original Guiot Paris retailer’s box -18 Boulevard de Strasbourg -provides the final layer of provenance, placing these pieces in a specific Parisian jeweller’s shop circa 1930.

Hinge functional, bangle opens and closes cleanly. Black enamel shows areas of lifting and loss to the stripe decoration on the bangle - visible and shown clearly in photographs. Brooch with similar light enamel wear. Gilt ground intact throughout. Box in good condition with slight deviation in lid and minor age marks to exterior, interior clean.
