Dominican Republic Advanced Collection — Classic Issues through ~1981 | Mostly Mint (MH & NH) | Many Imperf Varieties & Souvenir Sheets | Extensive Back of Book | 7 Homemade Albums + Stockbook | From Specialist Collector

You are bidding on an exceptional, highly specialized Dominican Republic stamp collection assembled by an American collector who lived in the Dominican Republic and devoted years to building one of the most thorough Dominican Republic collections you are likely to encounter. This collection was purchased directly from the original collector, who was very knowledgeable about Dominican Republic philately.

The collection spans from the classic early issues — including imperforate coat of arms and early definitive types — through approximately 1981. It fills seven homemade ring-binder albums and one black stockbook, totaling 301 photographs.

Album Details:

  • Country: Dominican Republic (República Dominicana)
  • Period: Classic early issues through approximately 1981
  • Albums: Seven red ring binders with homemade pages made on graph paper, with black hingeless mounts affixed throughout; plus one black stockbook
  • Mounting: All or nearly all stamps are in black hingeless mounts (albums); stockbook contains additional stamps with Scott catalog number notations
  • Condition of stamps: Mostly mint — early issues are mint hinged (MH); later issues are mint never hinged (NH); some used stamps are also present
  • Complete sheets: The collection includes complete sheets of some issues, including Olympic commemorative issues
  • Photos: 301 images — every page with at least one stamp is photographed

Imperf Varieties — A Particular Strength:

This is a complete Dominican Republic collection — not an imperf specialist album per se — but it includes a substantial number of imperforate varieties throughout. Many of these imperfs are not listed in the standard Scott catalog, representing the kind of depth that only a collector deeply immersed in Dominican Republic philately would have assembled. Scott #434, for example, is represented with its bottom-edge imperforate variety. Buyers who specialize in this country will want to review every photo carefully.

Souvenir Sheets:

The collection includes many souvenir sheets. A notable feature is that multiple souvenir sheet issues are represented with both the perforated and imperforate varieties — a meaningful distinction for specialists and one that adds considerably to the depth of the collection.

Back of Book — Extensive:

The back of book material in this collection is exceptional in scope. Approximately as many album pages — possibly more — are dedicated to back of book issues as to regular postage issues. This is not an afterthought; it reflects the same specialist depth that characterizes the rest of the collection.

Notable Items:

Among the items observed in the collection: Scott C14 and C14a, two different varieties of an early airmail stamp, are present as a connected pair in the album. Buyers interested in early Dominican Republic airmail material will want to examine this carefully.

Additional notable items and varieties may be present throughout — please review all 301 photos carefully.

What You Receive:

All stamps shown in the 301 photos are included in this lot. Pages with no stamps are not photographed. The stockbook contains additional stamps with Scott catalog number annotations on paper slips. What you see in the photos is what you receive.

A note on identification: Stamps have not been independently verified by a third-party expertizer. The original collector was highly knowledgeable about Dominican Republic stamps; however, buyers should satisfy themselves as to the identification of any items before purchasing.

A note on catalog values: This collection has not been fully cataloged or valued. Many items — particularly the imperf varieties and items not found in standard Scott listings — may require specialist references beyond the standard Scott catalog to value accurately.

Physical condition:

  • Albums: Seven homemade ring binders with graph paper pages; pages are in generally good condition
  • Hingeless mounts: Black hingeless mounts appear to be in generally good condition throughout
  • Stockbook: Standard black stockbook in good condition
  • Stamps: Mostly mint as described; please review all photos carefully before purchasing
