This is an interesting usage of Canal Zone J18, the 1c "Sharp A" US postage due overprint issue of 1925, used on a cover to RS Carter, the stamp dealer and promoter, from Ancon 5/14/29 with the CZ 72 (which catalogs $30 on the 3rd class cover) - but this is not a 3rd class usage (why? because the envelope is sealed, so it's not unsealed "junk" mail). The J18 is cancelled st left with a Balboa Heights machine cancel the same day, an obvious philatelic use.  Round magenta "T" marking at lower right indicating postage is due. Pencil note at lower right noting (correctly) that this is a proper "double due" since 1/2c postage is due for the difference between 3rd class and 1st class, and 1/2c for the "double" postage due as a penalty.  VF and clean. Scott catalog for J18 on a philatelic cover is $60, a great addition to a Canal Zone postal history collection.

Please add $1.50 postage within the US; international postage $2. We combine shipping, so buy some other of our items!
