The Quantum 450MB drives LPS series were legendary in early 90s computing because they offered an unprecedented mix of low-profile design, high reliability, and an embedded SCSI interface that made setup incredibly easy. 

Quantum was a pioneer in moving the controller logic directly onto the hard drive board itself. This eliminated the need for bulky external controllers, simplifying system design and making the drives plug-and-play relative to the computing standards of the time.

The ProDrive LPS (Low Profile Series) stood out with a height of just 1 inch. This compact footprint made them a perfect fit for smaller desktop PCs and the first generation of compact Macintosh computers.

Back in an era when drive failures were relatively common, many of these drives were highly durable. Many retro computing hobbyists find these drives are still able to boot up and spin without bad sectors decades later.

Quantum used a rotary moving coil actuator and closed-loop temperature compensation servo techniques, which allowed for rapid data access and accurate read/write head positioning.

Disk was taken from a working Amiga 2000 used intermittently on weekends.
