This limited-quantity custom lens is based on the Schneider-Kreuznach Componon-S 2.8/50-0018 V-Mount Macro, a high-resolution industrial optic originally designed for demanding inspection applications.
The Schneider-Kreuznach optical unit has been professionally installed in a custom silver metal barrel featuring a Leica M mount, smooth manual focusing and rangefinder coupling.
This is an independently customized product. Schneider-Kreuznach manufactured the optical unit; the Leica M-mount barrel and conversion were produced separately.
The optical units used for this version were previously operated on photovoltaic panel inspection production lines. They are therefore not unused, brand-new optical units.
Only units that meet our standards for condition and imaging performance are selected. Each optical unit is inspected, rebuilt in the custom barrel and tested before sale.
Minor cosmetic differences may be present from one unit to another. These differences do not affect normal operation or image quality.
This approach allows us to offer a rare, high-performance industrial optic at a more accessible price. However, because suitable optical units become available only irregularly, continuous supply cannot be guaranteed.
A separate limited batch using unused optical units may occasionally be offered at a different price.
The original Componon-S optical unit was developed for machine-vision and inspection applications, including printed circuit board, display-panel and photovoltaic inspection.
Unlike conventional photographic lenses that may lose performance as magnification increases, this optical design is corrected to deliver high resolving power over an approximate magnification range of 1:20 to 1:1.
In its standard Leica M-mount configuration, the minimum focusing distance is 0.7m.
For true macro photography, use a compatible helicoid-equipped mount adapter or extension tube. When additional extension is used, the rangefinder mechanism will no longer indicate the correct focus position. Please focus using live view or magnified display.
The custom barrel is manufactured and assembled by one of SHOTEN’s trusted OEM partners, selected for its precision machining and mechanical quality.

The result combines an industrial-grade optical unit with the handling and appearance of a classic manual-focus lens.
The published image circle of the optical unit is 43.2mm, providing full coverage of the 35mm full-frame format.
In practical use, the lens can also cover 44 × 33mm medium-format mirrorless sensors, including Fujifilm GFX and Hasselblad X-series cameras, without obvious hard vignetting under normal shooting conditions.
A separately available Leica M-to-camera mount adapter is required when using the lens on a mirrorless camera.

Because the front optical element is positioned relatively deep inside the barrel, the distance between the glass and the filter mounting position is longer than on a conventional photographic lens.
For this reason, filters intended to alter image characteristics are not recommended, as they may reduce image quality. A clear protective filter may be used if required.
For physical protection of the front of the lens, we recommend the separately available LIGHT LENS LAB L-E39-A lens hood.
