Here we have a quite scarce antique ironstone miniature (individual) creamer from Adams (produced by William Adams & Sons in Staffordshire, England) in Old English Rural Scenes, a red (or pink, depending on who you ask) transferware pattern depicting a pastoral scene with a cottage and a flock of sheep in the background and a maiden in the foreground feeding poultry and sheep. The pattern features a checkerboard border interspersed with cameos of flowers and cattle, and a scalloped high-relief gadrooned edge. Condition: Our photographs reveal the condition best -- please enlarge and zoom in on them, and examine them carefully. We often add graphics such as arrows, circles, and text boxes, to our photos to point out things of interest that might be hard to see, such as a price tag or maker's mark, as well as to highlight condition flaws. Very clean and fresh piece in shabby antique ironstone condition, with a repaired handle. The repair is solid and stable, but obvious, with a crack showing across the handle, as well as a missing chunk of it. Tea-stained crazing to the interior. Otherwise lovely.  

For those of you new to transferware -- please note that there are areas in the checkerboard transfer design around the border where the two ends of the transfer do not match up perfectly. Some of these imperfect seams are more obvious than others, and this is an expected and accepted flaw in-the-making of old transferware, so we have not noted anything in our photos or description having to do with them. Some people new to transferware interpret these imperfect seams as cracks or as marks -- they are not. They are in the transfer only, under the glaze, and cannot be felt and do not in anyway affect the actual pottery.

We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report.
