This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 8¾ x 6¼ inches (220x160mm).
It shows the four-masted barque SV Pamir at sea with its sails partially set. The ship's name 'PAMIR' is clearly visible on the bow. Tiny figures of sailors can be seen working high up in the rigging on the masts. The photograph appears to be taken from another vessel, with the deck and two figures visible in the foreground.
The reverse has handwritten text in blue ink reading 'S.V. Pamir cast off and setting sail. Note men on lower top gallant on the fore mast and main mast.' There is a photographer's stamp for 'Wm. Lees, Pictorial Press Agency, Re-Order No. 9568, 17 Hamilton Sq B'head' with phone numbers for Birkenhead.
