This release features a complete recording of the February 3, 1974, concert at Long Beach, California—part of the tour supporting the album *Brain Salad Surgery*—sourced from the master audience tape owned by the legendary taper Mike Millard. It is derived from a first-generation master of the Millard tape, a collection that has seen a steady stream of new releases in recent years. While a soundboard recording of the following night's show (broadcast on KBFH radio) also exists, that source is incomplete due to equipment failure, capturing only the first 36 minutes up to "Tarkus." In contrast, the Millard recording offers the superb balance and distinct instrumental separation characteristic of his work, making it an essential document of the performance. The concert itself captures the band with an aggressive, wild energy reminiscent of their early days; the high-octane opening sequence—featuring a blistering "Hoedown," a majestic "Jerusalem," the frenetic intensity of "Toccata," and "Tarkus"—is delivered here with immense sonic power.
