SIGMA APO 170-500mm 1:5-6.3 Zoom Lens
The autofocus operation appears to be unstable and may not work properly.
The condition may vary depending on the camera body used, but although the lens seems to make an operating sound when attempting autofocus, it does not appear to achieve focus. I do not have technical knowledge about lens maintenance, so I cannot determine whether this is due to a contact issue or another problem.
I tested the lens on a Canon EOS 80D and was able to take photos using manual focus. Please refer to the 6th photo. Since I do not usually shoot with manual focus, the focus may be slightly soft. The sample photo was taken from my home using the 500mm zoom setting, focusing on a tree located a little less than 100 meters away. The color and contrast have not been edited.
This lens is recommended for those who shoot using manual focus, or for buyers who are able to repair the lens themselves or arrange for repair.
I originally purchased this lens used sometime around 2010–2015. I used it for several years, and it has since been stored at home in a dark place. It has been kept in a non-smoking environment.
Cosmetic Condition:
There are minor scuffs, scratches, and signs of dirt throughout the lens body.
The lens hood was not included when I purchased it, and no case is included.
The rear lens cap is not a SIGMA-branded cap.
Optical Condition:
I do not see any noticeable dust, small fungus, or haze that would be concerning.
Please judge the condition based on the photos of the lens and the sample images.
This is an old used lens. Please understand that autofocus shooting appears to be difficult. This item is recommended only for buyers who can use it with manual focus, or who are able to repair it themselves or arrange for repair.
Additional note added on June 5:
I also tested the lens on a Canon EOS Kiss X3. I attached the lens and took handheld photos of a tree located approximately 50 meters or more away, focusing manually. Please refer to the 7th and 8th photos.
After taking several dozen test shots, an error message appeared about two times. When I previously took around 10 or more photos with the EOS 80D, this error did not appear. Therefore, I am not sure whether the cause is the camera body, the lens, or the shooting mode. Please refer to the 9th photo.
