The Lord of the Rings trilogy tells the epic story of the quest to destroy the One Ring. Created in secret by the Dark Lord Sauron, the One Ring's purpose is to ensnare, corrupt and enslave, whilst ultimately aiding its master in achieving his nefarious plan to dominate Middle-earth. The One Ring's destruction hinges upon the perilous journey of nine companions: Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Sam, Merry, Pippin and the ring bearer, Frodo.
To mark 25 years of this global fantasy phenomenon, The Royal Mint is releasing seven coins, beginning with a coin that pays tribute to the One Ring itself. Depicting the One Ring, the reverse of the coin is enhanced with an innovative caustic feature that reflects the Eye of Sauron when it catches the light
