This listing is for a Bic Gelocity Original pen fitted with a hand stability support grip. When the pen runs out, you can fit a new Bic Gelocity Original pen into the grip by unscrewing the tip and sliding the pen out.
The grip is designed for people with hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, arthritis or joint instability.
The grip prevents the finger and thumb from bending backwards when holding the pen.
It is essential that the correct size grip is used. When we refer to the size of the grip, we are talking about the diameter of the support cylinder which is measured in mm.
The grip works by filling in the web space between your thumb and your index finger. Two people with hands with the same length fingers may use different sized grips depending on the thickness of their fingers as the person with thinner fingers has a bigger space to fill in order to provide support and they will need a bigger size grip.
- A typical primary school pupil will use a grip size in the mid 20s.
- A typical secondary school pupil will use a size around 28 to 32mm which will increase as they grow.
- An adult with small hands will use a size around 32 to 34mm. An adult with larger hands will use a size around 36 to 40mm.
To measure your hand, print out the size guide on A4 paper by printing this image. It is important to use the full size of the paper with borderless printing. Check the dimension on the page after printing using a ruler.

On the size guide, the bigger circles represent the size of the support grip and the smaller circle represents the size of the pen shaft.
In order to select the correct size support for your hand, you need to compare the size of an elongated circle formed by your thumb and index finger with the printed circles. Find the size where the space inside your thumb and index finder just fits the lines on the size guide.
