The first photo shows the scapolite slice viewed along the c-crystallographic axis when backlit by a cell phone flashlight.  These crystals have some strong color zoning from a nearly clear exterior to dark purple around the edges of the crystal.  This direction illuminates the pleochroic color associated with refractive index omega.  The video demonstrates the pleochroism of the scapolite slice by reorienting the scapolite slice between views looking along the c-crystallographic axis and then the plane of the a-crystallographic axes when backlit by a cell phone flashlight.  The second photo is of the crystal viewed along the plane of the a-crystallographic axes when backlit by a cell phone flashlight.  This view provides light associated with refractive indices omega and epsilon, but epsilon dominates because it is a much lighter color.  This can all be explored further with a bright polariscope.  The final three photos are in ambient light with a ruler for scale.
