Orange County Drum & Percussion Birch Snare Drum - 14 x 5.5 in. Black Lacquer

1500000472519

Built for articulate response and controlled projection, this Orange County Drum & Percussion Birch snare drum reflects the brand’s custom shop roots while delivering a focused, modern voice. Part of OCDP's 35th anniversary relaunch, this 14x5.5" model features a 7.2 mm birch/poplar/birch shell with 45-degree bearing edges and 2.5 mm steel hoops for crisp articulation and controlled overtones. Finished in gloss black lacquer and paired with spectrum vacuum-coated hardware, the drum maintains strong visual presence while delivering consistent response under the sticks. Complete with zinc OCDP offset lugs, a front-mounted throw-off and Remo UT heads, this snare provides stable tuning and clear attack suited for both live and studio environments.

Birch and Poplar Shell Construction Delivers Focused Articulation

The 7.2 mm birch/poplar/birch shell produces a bright, focused tone with controlled low-end response. Birch emphasizes articulation and projection, while the poplar core helps balance resonance and sustain. This combination creates a snare voice that cuts cleanly through dense mixes while maintaining clarity across dynamic playing styles. The result is a responsive drum suited for both live performance and recording environments.

45-Degree Bearing Edges Support Consistent Tuning and Response

Precision 45-degree bearing edges provide even head contact and consistent tuning stability. Rimshots remain defined while ghost notes maintain clarity across dynamic changes. The drum responds predictably as tuning adjustments are made, allowing players to dial in tighter articulation or more open response depending on their playing style.

Front-Mounted Throw-Off and 20-Strand Wires for Controlled Sensitivity

The onboard front-mounted throw-off offers smooth engagement and dependable adjustment. Paired with 20-strand snare wires, the drum delivers balanced sensitivity and controlled articulation. This setup supports consistent response across different playing dynamics, from subtle ghost notes to more aggressive backbeats.

OCDP Hardware Platform Supports Stable Tuning and Durability

Zinc offset lugs and 2.5 mm steel hoops provide a stable tuning foundation for consistent performance. Striking spectrum vacuum-coated hardware enhances durability while maintaining visual contrast against the gloss black lacquer finish. Remo UT heads provide a responsive feel right out of the box, completing a performance-ready snare drum built for regular use.

The Return of Orange County Drum & Percussion

Born out of Southern California’s underground custom drum scene, Orange County Drum & Percussion became one of the most recognizable boutique drum builders of the 1990s and early 2000s. Known for bold finishes, distinctive hardware and kits built for players who wanted to stand out on stage, OCDP earned a loyal following among influential artists across rock and alternative music, including 311, Blink-182, Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters, NOFX, Slipknot and The Offspring. Now relaunched by Guitar Center to coincide with the brand’s 35th anniversary, OCDP returns with a product lineup inspired by its original custom shop designs while introducing updated builds for today’s players. Guided by founder Daniel Jensen and longtime OCDP artist Adrian Young of No Doubt, the new collection carries forward the visual identity and stage-driven attitude that defined the brand, reimagined for a new generation of drummers.
