The Great Western Railway built these long wheelbase 2 plank wagons for the Signal & Telegraph Department based at Reading. They were used to transport signalling equipment around the network. British railways built more after nationalisation with some alterations to the bodywork and brake gear.

This model was developed from a design by Jonathan Duffet.
