A charming pair of vintage miniature blue glass octopus figures, formed in rich cobalt lampwork glass.
These are stylised octopus rather than anatomically accurate examples. Each figure has four curled tentacles instead of eight, which is typical of mid-century lampwork sea creatures. At this small scale, fewer, thicker arms provided better balance and durability.
The larger example features applied contrasting white and dark eyes, while the smaller figure has applied eyes in matching blue glass.
Age & Origin Research:
Lampwork (flamework) marine animals were widely produced in Murano, Italy from the 1950s–1970s and became popular as decorative glass miniatures. The deep cobalt tone, applied eyes and curled tentacle style are strongly reminiscent of mid-century Murano production. Similar examples were also produced in Czechoslovakia and later Asian studios. Based on style and finish, these likely date to the 1960s–1970s and are Murano-style pieces.
Measurements:
• Largest octopus – approx. 3.8cm tall
• Smaller octopus – approx. 2cm tall
Condition:
Good vintage condition. No obvious chips or cracks noted on close inspection. Minor bubbles and slight variations are typical of hand-worked glass. Please examine photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
