The session recordings for "CHINESE DEMOCRACY" are now available in master quality, soundboard recordings. "VOL.1" compiles six discs labeled "Rough Mixes" CDs #1 through #4, "Rough Mixes J587 160," and "Rough Mixes J587 201" onto three discs. Since some of these 19 discs contain only one to a few tracks, the total recording time fits onto seven discs. Furthermore, as this is an item that prioritizes documentary value, the tracks, including working titles, are listed as they were on the original labels, and the recording levels and sound pressure have not been adjusted. The material has been deliberately presented in its original state, respecting the master tapes. Among the many highlights, the most notable are undoubtedly the numerous previously unreleased tracks making their debut, as well as Brian May's confirmed participation in Disc 1's Tracks 3, 6, and 7 (these are the three tracks confirmed so far, with the possibility of his participation on other tracks as well), alternate versions of album tracks including working titles, and the fact that a demo track for "HARD SKOOL," released after the band's reformation, already existed. Everything about this limited collector's edition, along with its sequel, is fascinating, making it a must-have for fans.
