Founded in 1941 as an American leather goods brand, Coach was established by Miles and Lillian Cahn. It began as a family-run workshop in SoHo, Manhattan, New York, where six skilled leather craftsmen, possessing inherited techniques, handcrafted each product. Inspired by baseball gloves that develop a unique character with use, the company developed new leather materials through the skilled hands of its craftsmen. In 1985, it became part of the Sara Lee Corporation, and subsequently expanded into a comprehensive apparel business. In 2002, Coach Ginza opened in Tokyo. In 2010, its first flagship store in mainland China opened in Shanghai. The brand continues to expand as a high-end brand.
