This is a quite rare early Asahi Pentax 35mm SLR film camera, with a very sought after early lens

It is the Asahi Pentax (original) K model

The original model was released in 1957 and the K version came a year later in 1958

The original models where the first easy to handle modern SLRs, with a pentaprism and easily handled controls

The camera has an M42 lens mount, with an automatic stop-down mechanism and is supplied with a (new at the time)

Auto-Takumar 55mm 1: 1.8 Zebra lens. The lens must be manually cocked to stay open and to stop-down automatically

This is the most sought after standard lens of the Auto-Takumar series, it is the fastest standard lens available and the only Takumar lens ever made with the "Zebra" finish

The camera is in fully working order; the speeds are good, even the slow speeds are OK; it fires a flash via the sync socket; the mirror, focusing screen and viewfinder are clean and the shutter curtain is in good condition 

The lens is in excellent mechanical order, the lever for the auto stop-down works well, the aperture is snappy, the focusing is smooth and the blades are clean

The lens optics, have some minor expected age related dust, otherwise they are clean, clear, scratch and fungus free. extremely good for its age

The only negative thing to mention about this camera is that it has damage on the top plate, on the pentaprism, it has a dent and a tiny mark to the finish, this is not affecting the functionality of the camera in any way.

Aside from the top plate the cosmetic condition of everything else on both the camera and lens is immaculate, it is so clean it appears unused, with not even a mark on the base plate, the leatherette is clean and intact and the light seals are all in excellent condition

The camera is supplied in its original soft branded leather case, with strap, also in very good condition
