National Domestic Violence Hotline
National Prevalence: Approximately 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Safety Trends: While overall rates decreased, some reports indicate the severity of incidents has increased, with the average 2025 domestic violence rate across surveyed cities being 431.5 per 100,000.
Fatalities: On average, more than three women and one man are murdered by their intimate partners every day in the U.S..
Hotline Activity: Domestic violence hotlines receive over 20,000 calls on a typical day.
Economic Impact: Domestic violence and sexual assault costs have risen, with studies estimating the financial burden to society in the billions.
Firearms & Danger: Abuser access to firearms increases the risk of intimate partner femicide by 400%.
Youth Exposure: 15.5 million children witness domestic violence annually.
Age: Intimate partner violence is most common against women between the ages of 18–24.
Stalking: 76% of women killed by their intimate partners were stalked first.
