The Schneider-Kreuznach XENON-EMERALD 50mm F2.2 “Leica M Mount Conversion” is a limited-edition lens created by converting a German-made industrial lens, XENON-EMERALD 2.2/50 (F-mount version), into a Leica M mount rangefinder-coupled lens.
The conversion is carried out at the SHOTEN mount adapter manufacturing facility, operated under the SHOTENKOBO (焦点工房) brand.
This special model combines industrial-grade optical performance with a precision-crafted metal lens barrel, delivering a unique shooting experience for Leica M users and mirrorless camera enthusiasts.
The original XENON-EMERALD 2.2/50 was developed by Schneider-Kreuznach for demanding industrial applications such as:
Machine vision systems
Printed circuit board inspection
LCD and OLED display inspection
It features a low-distortion optical design, high resolving power, and a full-frame image circle of 43.2mm, ensuring excellent edge-to-edge performance.
This lens delivers consistent sharpness across the entire frame and employs broadband coating covering wavelengths from visible light to near-infrared.
The coating helps to maintain stable light transmission, while reducing flare, ghosting, color shift, and contrast loss—characteristics highly valued in both industrial and photographic use.
From its maximum aperture of F2.2, the lens offers high resolution with a distinctly clean and sharp rendering typical of industrial optics.
At the same time, it produces natural, smooth bokeh, allowing subjects to stand out with a pleasing sense of depth.
The lens barrel is manufactured and customized at a carefully selected OEM factory partnered with SHOTEN.
The silver metal housing features refined finishing, smooth focusing operation, and a classic, timeless appearance that pairs beautifully with Leica M cameras.
According to Schneider-Kreuznach specifications, the image circle of the original F-mount version is 43.2mm.
This allows use on Fujifilm GFX and Hasselblad X series cameras (44×33mm medium format) via mount adapters, with no noticeable vignetting at near to mid distances.
Note: When used on 44×33mm sensors, vignetting may occur only at infinity focus.
