Epoch Echoes — The Private Collection is part of our Cabinet of Curios series, Release No. 1, January 2026. This is the most intimate and historically layered tier in the release, curated as one might preserve objects in a private drawer rather than assemble them for display.

This collection brings together personal correspondence, military and naval artifacts, early aviation imagery, and small personal effects — united not by theme alone, but by tone, era, and restraint.

What’s included in this Private Collection:

• Original handwritten postcard letter (circa early 1910s)

Written by a U.S. Army Sergeant, referencing service life and early military aviation. The letter discusses flight training and aircraft at a time when aviation was still experimental and newly integrated into military use during the WWI era.

Condition: Age-consistent toning, soft corners, and period wear; handwriting remains legible.

• Early aviation postcard

Featuring an early aircraft consistent with pre-WWI or WWI-era aviation. Serves as a visual counterpart to the aircraft referenced in the letter.

Condition: Surface wear and edge softening consistent with age.

• USS Olympia letter opener

Featuring raised ship imagery of the USS Olympia, a historically significant U.S. Navy vessel active from the Spanish-American War through World War I.

Condition: Patina and surface wear consistent with age; structurally sound.

• Vintage shooting competition medal (TCR & PL, 1950 – Fourth Place, .22 Caliber)

Retained in its original presentation box. The front ribbon panel shows sun fading, while the darker red central panel and reverse remain richly saturated, creating a striking contrast.

Condition: Age-related wear and fading; box shows expected storage wear.

• “Mary” name brooch with mother-of-pearl backing

Crafted using a single continuous wire that forms both the scripted name and the pin/closure mechanism. The reverse reveals luminous mother-of-pearl.

Condition: Very good vintage condition; wirework intact and functional.

• Vintage/Antique(?) die

A small but evocative personal object suggesting chance, leisure, or quiet moments between routine and duty.

Condition: Smooth wear consistent with age.

This set is offered as a Private Collection rather than individual pieces due to the presence of original early 20th-century correspondence, identifiable military and naval artifacts, early aviation ephemera, and a named mother-of-pearl brooch constructed using continuous wirework.

These items are increasingly difficult to source together, unseparated, and visually cohesive. The value lies not only in the individual objects, but in their preserved context and narrative continuity.
