This elegant Italian serving tray is a fine example of Sorrento marquetry, featuring richly toned hardwoods with intricate floral inlay arranged in a classical, symmetrical composition. The central floral medallion is surrounded by scrolling neoclassical motifs, executed in contrasting wood veneers that highlight the depth and craftsmanship typical of mid-century Sorrento work.

The tray is finished with a pierced brass gallery rim and solid brass handles, combining decorative refinement with practical durability. The underside retains its original paper label reading “Gabriella, Via Tasso 10, Sorrento – Italy,” confirming its place of manufacture and workshop origin.

Sorrento trays of this type were produced for both local use and the export market, valued for their balance of ornament and function. Today, this piece serves beautifully as a bar or coffee service tray, vanity or console display, or decorative tabletop accent, and it also displays well vertically when not in use.
