An original World War One issue 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class. Vaulted screw-back type with clamshell closure nut.

A 3-piece construction award. Blackened iron core inside a two-piece bronze frame. Joined together. Silver plated finish. The iron core lightly pitted under magnification, leading to some finish loss. The reverse showing bright silver plate. The bronze exposed by closure nut wear and edge wear. The threaded post centrally mounted with adjacent manufacturer hallmark. 42.7 x 42.5 mm.

The closure nut in blackened steel. Maker marked "Victoria DRGM". Lightly pitted beneath the paint.
