The Gulistan, or Flower-Garden, of Shaikh Sadi of Shiraz – 1823 English Edition

Offered here is an early 1823 English edition of The Gulistan, the celebrated moral and literary masterpiece by Saʿdī of Shiraz. First written in 1258 CE, The Gulistan is one of the greatest works of classical Persian literature and remains highly regarded for its blend of poetic insight, philosophical reflection, and short anecdotal tales. This English translation helped introduce Saʿdī’s writing to Western readers during the early 19th century, contributing to the growing interest in Middle Eastern literature among European scholars.

This antique volume shows significant age and wear. The pages are deeply yellowed from two centuries of age, and portions of the text block show tattering along the edges. The binding is coming loose and shows separation in areas, making this a fragile but still historically meaningful example of an early English printing of Saʿdī’s work.

Condition: Acceptable antique copy with heavy yellowing throughout, tattered page edges, and binding separation. Offered as-is due to age.
