85' ACF Baggage Car - Standard - Union Pacific(R) Heritage Fleet -- #5769; w/American FLAG 

New (2024 release) HO scale factory painted and assembled model of an 85' ACF baggage car by WalthersPROTO.   Triple axel trucks with blacked metal wheels/RP25 contours. Painted Armor yellow and gray with red lettering and stripes for the Union Pacific RR. "Proud Heritage; Powerful Future" slogan. Road number 5769. Product number 920-9200. 

Product Information

A key part of Union Pacific's public relations programs, 48 historic passenger cars, three restored steam locomotives and an A-B-A set of E9 diesels make up the famed Heritage Fleet. Many were originally purchased for the City Streamliners, and have been carefully restored and updated to full operating condition. Today, the cars and E9s are finished in a modern Armour Yellow scheme, and the cars carry names of important cities, famous trains and key people in the railroad's long history. In service, these rolling goodwill ambassadors travel system-wide and beyond, to attend a wide range of public and special events every year.

Delivered new in the fall of 1962, Postal Storage car #5769 was renumbered #24486 and reassigned to a planned new express service in 1969. When those plans were cancelled a year later, the car joined the maintenance fleet as #904286. In 2000, the car was reassigned once more, this time for special service during the political conventions that year, receiving large US flag graphics, and it's original car number with the new UPP reporting marks. Named for Council Bluffs, Iowa, UP's designated starting point, today it serves the Heritage Fleet as a Baggage-Recreation car.

Delivered new in October of 1962, car #5779 saw regular service as a postal-storage car through December of 1971. Over the years, the car served as part of the excursion and executive fleets, before being converted to a museum car named "Western Star" in 1990. The car was the first to carry the "Promontory" name from 1993 to 2009, when a large US flag decal was applied and the name removed. The inteior walls are covered with carpeting so that historical displays can be changed as needed, and also serves as an exercise car when it isn't needed for displays.
