Glycolic Acid is the smallest molecule of the Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA's) derived from sugar cane. Due to it's small size it is able to penetrate the skin, getting into the pores to clear out debris and unclog the pores.
Glycolic acid is mainly used to improve the appearance, and texture, of the skin through chemical peel process. Once applied, to the skin, it breaks down the lipids that hold the dead skin cells on the surface, speeding their removal, resulting in an improved appearance with fewer spots, refined pores, leaving behind a layer of brighter, smooth skin. Glycolic acid also reduces the amount of surface skin oil, which aids in the removal of blackheads and other skin impurities and a more even skin tone that is more radiant. They say that 18 year old skin exfoliates about every 28 days, which slows down, with the normal aging process, to as high as double that time for 45 year old skin, resulting in dull, dry, congested skin and a patchy complexion.
Through the speeding up of the exfoliation process, Glycolic Acid helps to improve acne scarring, hyper pigmentation, age spots, wrinkles and seborrheic keratosis, as well as hyper keratosis. This is, essentially, removing old skin to reveal new skin, which is much more refined in appearance but, is also more fragile*, and care must be taken to make sure that it is used properly. Glycolic Acid is not to be taken lightly.
What % should you start with:
New to chemical peels you should start with 5-20% and gradually increase to 30-40-50%
HOW OFTEN TO USE:
It is recommended that you use the Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel solution once weekly for 6 weeks, then rest your skin for 2 weeks (to allow skin cells to naturally rejuvenate). After the 2 week rest, you may start another 6 week cycle. Continue this cycle until you achieve the results you seek in your skin. Certain scars or deep wrinkles may require several cycles of treatment.
Directions
Before applying the Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel to your face, make sure it is thoroughly cleansed, well rinsed, and completely dried. It is very important that you only apply this product to clean dry skin. All oils on the skin surface must be removed prior to use. DO NOT APPLY TO BROKEN SKIN, and DO NOT RUB INTO THE SKIN. Any soap or skin cleansing product must be well rinsed off. These agents contain a high pH level, which will decrease the effectiveness of the product.
After cleansing the skin, gently apply enough product with a cotton ball or cotton facial pad & nicely cover the area. Keep product away from eyes, lips, and mucous membranes.
Do NOT rub into skin.
Leave on 2 - 3 minutes. (You may increase by a 60 seconds a week, up to a max of 6 minutes.)
Apply your favorite non-comedogenic moisturizer after your peel.
YOU MAY EXPERIENCE...
You may experience slight stinging or tingling while the glycolic acid is on the skin. The skin may turn pink, but will return to its normal color within 1 to 2 days. When used correctly there shouldn't be severe redness, burning, or blistering. If you experience these symptoms seek medical treatment and discontinue use. This will happen when the product is not used correctly, you are using too high of glycolic acid strength, or if your skin is too sensitive to handle a chemical peel. Also these symptoms mean you could be having an allergic reaction to the product.
It is normal for the skin to “peel” and appear flaky 1 to 2 days after use. That means the product is working. This is the dead skin shedding, allowing a healthy layer to come to the surface. If heavy peeling or slight scabbing occurs, apply a petroleum based product, or antibiotic ointment (Neosporin) to help speed healing.

Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards. If you are using Retin A products and want to use our Acid Peels, you will need to stop the treatments at least two-weeks before using the Peels. Retin A makes the skin very sensitive to the sun and to other products.
