A rare and unusual 78 RPM record from the 1940's. C0-Art Record No. 5063 - Jimmy Scribner's "Uncle Nappy" Stories: "Bouncing Oil" as told by Jimmy Scribner creator of Radio's "Johnson Family". A period piece.
The Johnson Family was a one-man radio show in the 1930's put on by Jimmy Scribner who plays all African American characters in the southern town of Chickazola. Scribner wrote scripts, did the sound effects, voices and music. In 1945, he moved to "California hoping to play Uncle Remus in the "The Song of the South". Disney used a black actor, but Scribner was the dialog coach on the movie. He later (1949) created the Sleepy Joe show and did Uncle Remus type records of which this is one. Telling tales, fables and legends about animals, he would sometimes ad-lib the entire story. Aimed at children his work "interwove maxims such as how brains can beat brawn." Although his work was accepted in his era, it is vastly out of step with today's values.
