One of the most beautiful Georges L’Enfant  Platinum or gold pieces I have yet encountered ! The refined metallurgical skill it would take to make a piece like this is unsurpassed !

Extremely Rare French Edwardian Art Deco 850 900 Platinum Early Georges L’Enfant Pocket Watch Chain ⛓️ Fully hallmarked on  each important section, dog clip, spring ring and chain, each baring his full or partial makers mark GL with the dice and bird images between the alphabets for Georges L'Enfant, and the dog head for French platinum. Georges L'Enfant also engraved a serial number on the dog clip, 22587 which would indicate the platinum chain was an important piece.  Platinum in the Victorian Edwardian and art Deco era consisted of either 85 percent platinum and 15 percent palladium for a beautiful white shine or reflection (850 platinum), or 90 percent platinum and 10 percent iridium to add rigidity and strength (900 platinum). Weighs approximately 8.8 grams. Approximately 36.2 cm (14  4/16 inches) in length, with the beautiful elongated links being approximately 1.47 to 1.56 cm (9.3/16 to 9.8/16 of an inch) in length from one loop edge to the furthest opposing loop edge (these were each independently handcrafted links thus the slight variations in length), and approximately 1.45 mm to 1.56 mm (0.8/16 to 1/16 of an inch) at its thickest center portion. Georges L'Enfant was an exceptional platinum and goldsmith who was contracted by all the best jewelry companies, from Tiffany to Hermes and even Cartier to name a few. I have seen the elongated chain links copied by so many goldsmith, so this would be the very first original to inspire all the rest ! Will continue........ Feel free to check out my other Museum Quality Chains ⛓️

* Light abrasions as illustrated in the detailed images. The chain has two missing single tiny ring links which were replaced by what appears as a tiny platinum wire link as illustrated in the detailed images, best seen in the 18th and 19th images, could easily be fixed by a good jeweler but I prefer selling museum quality pieces in their original condition !

? A good jeweler could easily convert this beauty into a spectacular Arts & Crafts bracelet  for this is a one of a kind chain, never seen another in my 40 years in the business !

For the year of our Lord 2025 we wish you a Very Magical Christmas & Happy New Year ❄️
