you are buying this to restore the K profile ignition switch in order to work your K door handles and return to a single key operates the ignition and doors. Engine lid lock with K profile can also be worked to use the ignition switch key, see my other items

most all Volkswagens were ONE key cars, no ignition key, no door key, one key worked all locks, the key to the car

So what happened "back in the day" was the key was lost, so changing the lock was easy, or, the starter did not work, so the ignition lock was cheap to replace and try. A key could have been made from the code on the lock, replacing the starter would have been the proper repair, I have NEVER found a bad ignition switch. Taking them apart, they are built quite well, those contacts do not go bad.
