After the end of the Second World War, 386 Class 86 machines were in circulation on the territory of West Germany. Most of them could be repaired, so much so that in 1952 the DB had 378 locomotives from this series. In addition to classic secondary line trains, the scope of responsibility also regularly included the transport of express trains and shunting in freight yards.
