Synopsis found online:
"The Americans is a photographic book by Robert Frank that, through 83 photos taken during his travels across the United States, presents a more complex and critical view of American life than the optimistic image often portrayed at the time. The book contrasts the nation's glamorous facade with its underlying realities of racism, consumerism, and alienation, while also revealing a poetic, melancholic beauty in everyday, overlooked scenes. Published in 1958-1959, the work was revolutionary for its intuitive, unpolished style and its impact on the course of modern photography."
