When the air cleans again, she gives the distraught boy a book to say goodbye. Chris wonders the good woman lied for him, but still steals a handful of other books from her before he disappears. When Iggy discovers the books, he has them burned. In his eyes, they are trash and worth nothing. But one thing can save Chris. Namely, the exact copy Evangeline gave him. He begins to read, discovers a whole new world, is thrilled, and eventually finds new courage. Because now life in the junkyard has become so unbearable that Chris can't take it anymore. Together with his girlfriend Faith (Staci Crowe), he runs away and eventually ends up in Electra City, a deceptive glitter and illusory world. There the two meet the diabolical Luc (Robert Bear).
