5 Glass Slides Transparent Projection Photos Scout Moots in Scotland 1939 & 1952

Such slides as these were made to be projected in large auditoriums, at a time when projector lamps were hot, and these glass slides could resist the high temperatures.  The fine grain of the printing allowed for projection on large screens with maximum resolution. Glass pieces were prepared with a light-sensitive emulsion, and images were printed on the glass, just as might be done with photo-sensitive papers. In subsequent years, the popular Kodachrome 2 x 2 slides with their stunning color and fine-grain resolution took over the market, but it took several years for large auditoriums to install modern equipment and abandon these glass positive projection slides, since they had been the standard since the earliest days of projected images.
