Пропоноване дослідження створене на підставі автентичних архівних джерел, музейних матеріалів, статистичних даних, свідчень краєзнавців, змальовує героїчну і водночас глибоко драматичну долю Бузького козацтва, якому довелося пережити татарські набіги, війни з Туреччиною та Наполеонівською Францією, сваволю власної старшини й терор російської адміністрації. "Червоною ниткою" крізь сюжет книжки проходить прагнення до свободи і в переважній більшості невідомих героїв, яких не змогли зламати ні царські побоювання нової "мазепинщини", ні самодурство Аракчєєвщини... Книжка містить великий додаток, який становлять документи, що зберігаються в державних архівах Херсонської та Одеської областей. Більшість із них досі не були опубліковані. Пропоноване дослідження — перша в історіографії книжка з історії Бузького козацького війська.

The proposed study is based on authentic archival sources, museum materials, statistical data, and testimonies of local historians, and depicts the heroic and at the same time deeply dramatic fate of the Bug Cossacks, who had to survive Tatar raids, wars with Turkey and Napoleonic France, the arbitrariness of their own foremen, and the terror of the Russian administration. The "red thread" running through the plot of the book is the desire for freedom, and in the vast majority of unknown heroes, whom neither the tsarist fears of the new "Mazepin regime" nor the tyranny of the Arakcheev regime could break... The book contains a large appendix, which consists of documents stored in the state archives of the Kherson and Odessa regions. Most of them have not yet been published. The proposed study is the first book in historiography on the history of the Bug Cossack army.
