BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The tithe barn at Great Coxwell was built around the late 13th century for Beaulieu Abbey to store grain and other crops from its monastic grange and tithe income from tenants. The barn is a massive, 7-bay structure made of Cotswold rubble stone with a distinctive timber roof, and it's considered one of the finest surviving medieval barns in England. After the dissolution of the monasteries, it passed through private ownership before the National Trust acquired it in 1956, and it remains under their care today.
