These medium size colorful Baseball Karuta Cards were made in 1949.
These cards are Catalogued as JK 2 in the Japanese Baseball Card Catalog.
They are fairly Scarce overall.

NOTE: The original full set would be 45 picture 'player' cards, and 45 matching 'reading' cards.


Tetsuharu Kawakami 川上 哲治
is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame
Kawakami was a player from 1938-1958
He was a professional player for 18 years,
winning 5 batting titles, 2 home run crowns, 3 RBI titles
and had 6 titles for the most hits in a season.
He was the first player in Japanese pro baseball to achieve 2,000 hits
and was named the league's MVP 3 times
As Manager of the Yomiuri Giants from 1961 to 1974, 
he led the Giants to nine consecutive championships.


Fumio Fujimura 藤村 富美男
is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame
Fumio was a two-way player from 1936-1958
34-11 record pitching, and hit 224 HRs
A superstitious player, Fujimura never hurt insects or shaved before games,
Known as hot-tempered, as he was once suspended for physically abusing an umpire.
In 1950, Fujimura set the single-season record with 191 base hits.
This record remained unbroken for 44 years, until Ichiro Suzuki surpassed it in 1994.

Shoji Arakawa 荒川
Taiyo Robins
Arakawa played from 1947 to 1955.
He had a career average of .251, with 14 HRs and 122 SBs.
