Kawakami was a player from 1938-1958
He was a professional player for 18 years,
winning 5 batting titles, 2 home run crowns, 3 RBI titles
and had 6 titles
for the most hits in a season.
He was the first player in Japanese pro baseball to achieve 2,000 hits
and was named the league's MVP 3 times
As Manager of the Yomiuri Giants from 1961 to 1974, he led the Giants to nine consecutive championships.
Shigeru Sugishita 杉下 茂
is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame
A Japanese former professional baseball pitcher and coach.
Renowned for his forkball, Sugishita dominated the Central League from 1950–1955,
winning more than 30 games twice (winning at least 23 games each season),
and garnering three Eiji Sawamura Awards.
Sugishita usually split his time between starting games and pitching in relief.
He played 11 seasons, ten of them for the Dragons.
Makoto Kozuru 小鶴 誠
is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame
Kozuru was a player from 1942-1958
single season RBI record holder.
1st player to hit 50+ home runs.
Kozuru was often compared to Joe DiMaggio. He played as an outfielder and infielder.
He holds the Japanese baseball record for most RBIs in a single season
with 161 in 1950.
That same year he also hit 51 home runs,
becoming the
first Japanese player to break the 50-homer mark in a single season.
Michio Nishizawa 西澤 道夫
Nishizawa is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame
He was a player from 1936-1958.
and was the youngest player ever, as a 15 year old Rookie.
Nishizawa was a two-way player, Ohtani-like
ie pitched no hitter 1942, hit 5 grandslams in 1950
led league in many batting categories.
Kaoru Betto 別当 薫
is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame
Betto was a player from 1948-1957, 1950 MVP
A lifetime .302 Average, with 39 HRs and 43 HRs his best seasons.
He had a .671 Slugging % in 1950.
He was also a manager from 1952-1973
'The DUDE' in the movie 'The Big Lebowski' wore a Kaoru Betto shirt in movie.
Hiroshi Oshita 大下 弘
is in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame
Ohshita/Oshita was a Professional player from 1945-1959
early Home Run King
Taiwan born Ohshita began his Pro career after World War II.
Known for his trademark blue bat, he hit a record 20 home runs in a season
and was home run king and
leading hitter three times for the Toei Flyers.
Oshita was also a heavy
hitter with the Nishitetsu Lions of the Pacific League during the 1950s.
