Each card reflects personal interpretations of symbols drawn from legends, myths and significant historical personages.

King:  MWATA YAMVO (1760-1820). 'Lord of the Viper', a powerful chief & hunter of the Balunda Tribe.
Queen:  ALA, the earth goddess of the IBO people of Nigeria.
Jack:  BALLA FASSEKE, a griot in the court of Sundiata, King of Malo (1235-1252)

CLUBS
King:  SHAMBA BOLOGNA, King of the Bukuba (1600-1620)
Queen:  MUJAJA, the African Rain Queen of the Lovedu, a Bantu tribe.
Jack:  INDUNA, an aide to the King

DIAMONDS
King:  KING OSEI TUTU, King of the Ashanti (1801-1824)
Queen:  AKVADAPA, Queen Mother of the Bonda
Jack: OKUMFO ANOKYE. the State Priest & Wide Counselor to the Ashanti King Ashiene.

SPADES
King:  CHAKA, King of the Zulu Nation (1810-1842)
Queen:  AMAZON WOMAN ARMY GUARD of the Dahomey King.
Jack: MZILIKAZIS, a Zulu general under Chaka.
