@ ORIGINAL 4X5 TRANSPARENCY:  THE BIRTH OF A NATION 1915 classic D.W.GRIFFITH
This is an original studio or photographer's 4x5-inch color slide transparency from our archive. This image is for a 28x41 stone lithograph one sheet. This is known as the CLANSMAN style. An extremely rare poster which sells for very significant price, a remarkable historical poster. I sold this poster a lifetime ago, back in the 1980s. It is interesting to note that only the reissue one sheet from 1921 surfaces in auction house - never the original release poster.

The Birth of a Nation (1915), directed by D.W. Griffith, is a landmark silent film that revolutionized cinema with its innovative techniques, such as close-ups, cross-cutting, and large-scale battle scenes. Adapted from Thomas Dixon Jr.'s novel The Clansman, the film portrays the American Civil War and Reconstruction through the intertwined lives of two families, the Northern Stonemans and the Southern Camerons. While it was the first American 12-reel film and became the first blockbuster Hollywood hit, earning significant acclaim for its technical achievements, it has been widely condemned for its overt racism and glorification of the Ku Klux Klan. The film's portrayal of African Americans and its positive depiction of the KKK contributed to the resurgence of the Klan and had a lasting negative impact on race relations in the United States. Despite its cinematic innovations, the film remains one of the most controversial in American history due to its racist content and the societal harm it inflicted.

In 1981, I founded STARS ROCK AND MOVIE POSTERS in Sydney, expanding to four stores and a framing warehouse specializing in collectable music posters and movie memorabilia. My global network and exclusive deals with film distributors allowed me to acquire and promptly sell rare items, meticulously archiving them through professional photography. Health challenges led to the closure of my physical stores, transitioning to online sales via eBay. A 2017 interstate move and a return of my illness prompted a shift to the corporate sector, during which I sold most of my poster collection to a Queensland dealer. However, upon closer inspection, I discovered hidden gems among the remaining items. Now, through the ozsell store, I am offering these unique pieces to collectors, aiming to clear my varied inventory and embrace a well-deserved retirement.
