За останні 40 років це перший у світі випадок потоплення флагманського корабля. Ще більшого символізму цій події надала, по-перше, співзвучність назви крейсера зі столицею держави-агресора, а по-друге, той факт, що Україна, практично не маючи великого військового флоту, на відміну від рф, показала, що українці спроможні на рівних боротися проти потужної військової машини російських агресорів..
